Pure hubris that McHale was supposedly smarter than conventional wisdom at the time, when of course that has never been the case. However, I predict Flip will get enough production out of Foye and Miller that Sid Hartman will use their 2009-2010 Wizard stats to try to question the deal - that maybe McHale "wasn't so wrong after all".
