Can’t wait for the play-offs to begin. Houston Rockets will eat the Jazz!!!!

Posted by: john on April 17th, 2008 at 6:09 am

I didn’t even know there were 36 categories to rank! Great work!

Brian, how are you going to calls the Bulls’ broadcasting crew the *worst* in the League? Red Kerr is a lovable old guy, Dore is rock solid…Stacey King’s a bit weak, but he’s still new. I’m not saying their the *best*, but they certainly aren’t the worst.

Posted by: Ryne Nelson on April 17th, 2008 at 9:15 am

Brian, good call on Amir Johnson (even if it is slightly homerism-inspired). We are lucky to have him. His split stats for April while they’ve been resting the starters:

20.6 minutes/game
5.8 points/game
6.3 rebounds/game
61.8 fg%
90.9 ft%
.78 steals/game
2.0 blocks/game

Posted by: Shinons on April 17th, 2008 at 9:37 am

Hey Ryne,

Honestly, I would probably put the Cavs crew tied with the Bulls crew for worst. I see what you’re saying, but all I know is that whenever I watch a Bulls broadcast I suddenly feel very, very… very sleepy. The crew–along with the production values–are a great cure for insomnia.

Posted by: Brian Spencer on April 17th, 2008 at 11:15 am

I have to go with Brian on most of these lists! I liked “Alfred” Horford, CP3 over Kobe (though Kobe is owed the MVP for 2005), Detroit over Boston, and Miami over the Knicks for “worst team”. And Bryan Scott over Doc Rivers (?!?) for Coach of the Year.

I would say I was surprised neither of you put Kevin Durant down as the likely to improve the most next year. I’m already predicting the jump next year - add another top-5 pick to that team, someone who can take some pressure of Durant, and you are looking at 47% on FGs next year… I’ll peg him for a Kevin Martin like 25ppg next year.

Chicago (and Miami) was the biggest dissappointment this year. How was Golden State disappointing, Andrew? They won 49 games after starting off 0-6 with Stephen Jackson suspended! They just ran into a historical NBA season…

can we get a reasoning for dumars over kupchak?

Posted by: phil anselmo on April 17th, 2008 at 12:14 pm

How can you rank Boston announcers in the top 5? Is this with or without Tommy?

Posted by: CB on April 17th, 2008 at 2:07 pm

Dumars - drafted Rodney Stuckey & Arron Afflalo, added Jarvis Hayes (plus the continued development of Maxiell, Amir, etc)

Kupchak - didn’t trade Kobe or Bynum over the summer, accepted Chris Wallace’s donation of Pau Gasol at mid-season

Posted by: Greg H on April 17th, 2008 at 2:11 pm

Phil, I’ll post a few thoughts re: Dumars over Kupchak a little later today/tonight.

Boston’s crew–with Tommy–is in there strictly from an entertainment point of view. Blatant homers? Yes. Whiners? Oh yeah. But entertaining because of it all? Yes indeed.

Posted by: Brian Spencer on April 17th, 2008 at 2:12 pm

Agreed on Boston, they’re the only crew (specifically Tommy) that actually makes me laugh on a regular basis. If you’re not rooting against the Celts, they make the game a lot of fun. I also like the Bob Cousy appearances and his old-school take on players he’s clearly unfamiliar with.

I’m disappointed in the Warriors for coming out flat to start the year (even with S-Jax suspended) and I think they absolutely had the talent to be a playoff team in the West, even this year. My disappointment is amplified by really wanting to see them make it.

Posted by: Andrew Thell on April 17th, 2008 at 2:22 pm

The Celtics broadcast team is terrible. Heinsohn alone gets them last place for his borderline senility and stupidity.

Posted by: Juanito on April 17th, 2008 at 2:48 pm

Wow… y’all really don’t like the Southwest division, do you? Also, any list that doesn’t feature Tim Duncan as one of the 5 classiest in the league - especially when Chris “how many All-Star games did HE play in?” Paul and Dwight “I’m not gonna let the NBA star lifestyle change me oops I fathered a baby with a cheerleader” Howard do make the list - shows a complete lack of knowledge not of basketball, but of mankind in general.

Posted by: David on April 17th, 2008 at 4:48 pm

What a waste of time… go do something else, anything else.

Posted by: ktulu on April 17th, 2008 at 6:01 pm

Loved your list. Great list.

The Celtics broadcast team is the best. Their chemistry is outstanding. So easy to listen to. Seamless. Always fun to listen to.

New York Knicks — absolutely the worst. Walt “Clyde” Frazier sounds like a retarded Deputy Dawg. I have to put it on mute.

Thank God, there wasn’t much of a reason to watch the Knicks this year — except for that awesome Zach Randolph masterpiece.
