Well, Mr. Lanaganite, for some reason I feel like there's a correlation between your fantasy basketball and general NBA knowledge. And we both know how the former is going...

Some good points, Seth--the thing is, this is all assuming that Shaq's broken-down body somehow makes a miraculous recovery, and that he stays healthy enough (and out of foul trouble enough) to make an impact.

As to your last point, neither the Celtics or Suns will be in the NBA Finals.

I would have to disagree with both of you. I think this trade is what Pheonix needs. Think about the possibilities and options the Suns have to run an offense and how they can react on defense having Shaq. He is only gonna play 20-30 minutes a night and when D'Antoni wants to run fast and nasty on his opponents he can sit Shaq out for a lil breather and send Diaw or Barbosa in. I also think this trade is gonna fit Nash perfectly. Nash drives to the basket a majority of the game, having two premier post players down is gonna free up the 3 a lot. Raja Bells stock is definetly gonna rise. He takes up more space than anyone in the league and will bring the muscle/defensive presence that Phoenix has always lacked. Which brings me to my last point, Phoenix vs. Celtics for the NBA Finals.

How does this move make any sense for Phoenix? I realize Marion wanted out, but he would've been gone in about 4 months....they went on and on and on (and on) about how they didn't want to incur the luxury tax, then the traded a player what amounts to the final year of his contract for Shaq's $20 mil/yr for another 2 years.
When I first saw rumors of this move I thought must have been a case of an overanxious (or overzealous) ESPN reporter trying to break a scoop and totally screwing up on the story. I'm completely perplexed and a little worried (as a Shawn Marion fantasy owner).

Yeah I think it is a pointless and harming trade for the Suns, but, being a Lakers fan, I am happy.
