Flea is Not Down with Smush Parker’s Tanty

March 9, 2007

Flea

Since posting about Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ ongoing Lakers blog on NBA.com, we here at Empty the Bench just haven’t been able to pull ourselves away from his thoughtful prose. As such, we’ve decided to regularly reprint select passages of Flea articulately expressing himself through words. This week, the RHCP bassist comes to grips with Phil Jackson’s superior basketball knowledge, wonders about Smush Parker’s attitude, and expresses hope for the Lakers’ playoff chances.

my shred of hope is nothing but a shred of hope
but great kingdoms have been built from a shred of hope

the lakers getting or not getting scottie pippen
it is hard to imagine that it would change anything one way or the other
but phil jackson sure knows a lot more about basketball than me if
him and mitch think it is good then i say upwards and onwards

whats up with smush having a tanty
it aint no time for tanties when the team is down
it is time for putting all egos aside and contributing when you are asked

There you have it, Smush: Flea says no more tanties.

I’m with Flea. It’s absurd to be having tanties at this point in the season. Smush just needs to focus on winning and hitting his late-game FTs without having a tanty.

I think the beauty of Flea’s initial couplet is being overlooked, here:
my shred of hope is nothing but a shred of hope /
but great kingdoms have been built from a shred of hope (1-2).
This is something all of us can ponder.
